Elena Anderson is a classically trained actor, audiobook narrator, and voiceover artist who specializes in bringing smart, sensitive women (and their stories) to life. Her earnest and trustworthy voice, international upbringing (she’s a Foreign Service brat), facility with languages and dialects, and lifelong study of history give her the experiential and technical skills to tackle a variety of genres, with soft spots for speculative fiction, literary fiction, and historical fiction and nonfiction. She has played stalwart heroines, warrior princesses, villainous femmes fatales, nerdy sidekicks, robots, vampires, werewolves, witches, and everything in between!
Elena is passionate about bringing attention to underrepresented experiences, ideas, or events and is dedicated to lifelong learning as both a woman and an artist. Her undergraduate study of history and anthropology, subsequent acquisition of an MFA in acting, and an enduring extracurricular love of astronomy give her a knack for digesting and communicating dense academic material. She has a particular fascination with the history of international trade and cultural exchange — she wrote her undergraduate history thesis on the evolution of mounted combat in Central Asia and its impact on martial culture in early medieval Europe.
Thanks to both parents working in the US Foreign Service, Elena grew up traveling the world. She spent her first four years in Tanzania and Eritrea, and later lived in Germany, Belgium, France, Spain, and England. Due to her itinerant childhood and subsequent travels, she has studied multiple languages (particularly French, Spanish, German, and Italian), and has a strong ear for picking up dialects and accents.
When she’s not working, she enjoys contra dancing, crocheting, playing piano, and sword fighting with friends! She is a certified Actor Combatant with the Society of American Fight Directors. She also works as a freelance grant writer, using the power of storytelling to support artists and nonprofit organizations that amplify marginalized voices.
Elena is available to work in studio (as a local hire in Washington, DC/Baltimore/Northern VA) and in her home studio.
